It's officially autumn - we can finally open the windows in the morning! Granted, it was still hitting 100 earlier this week, but, well.

I've been devoting all my breaks to hitting my 1k/day goal, hence the LJ blackout. But I can apparently access my blog at work despite their filter (go fig), so I've put up a few posts over there: one on gaybies, one on how we built the chicken coop, one on our garden, and one on - no. I'm going to tell you about that here.

Look at what we found!!

Our chickens are laying! Or, rather more accurately, one chicken is laying! We've had three eggs since Sunday - one each day except yesterday. It's pretty exciting. I'd almost forgotten that's why we got the chickens in the first place. :P We'd both just figured it'd be a while yet and Lady wasn't even going to check, but then we noticed some of the straw had been kicked out of one of the nesting boxes and - egg!

They're tiny buggers, maybe a little more than half the size of a traditional large egg. But we ate two of them on Monday with burgers and they were grand. Hopefully more ladies will lay soon; it'd be nice to finally pay back all our helpers. :)

There are other things, but I think I'm going to try and space my posts out instead of lumping everything into one post like I usually do. :P

The eggs should get larger as the hens grow from pullets to adults. In my recollection our hens reached full size in six or eight months, hit their peak laying around a year to fourteen months, and declined to rarely laying around two and a half or three years, when they became supper.
