Thoughts on a Lunch Break, XV
Jul. 15th, 2013 12:45 pm- I've been having a very hard time adulting lately. That is, doing the basic things that need to be done as an independent and responsible human being. I seem to either be able to do everything ever or nothing never, and not a thing in-between.
- My birthday is approaching and I haven't been giving it hardly any thought. I am of the opinion that one should have their entire birth month to indulge and reflect in and that if they want anything exciting to happen on the day itself, they'd best bring that excitement about themselves. The years since I graduated, I've been using the time around my birthday as a sort of reflective period, one for dispersing with old thoughts and starting anew. Kind of a personal new year's.
- This lack of thought might be not entirely reflective of reality, since I have been putting a lot of thought into our dream of moving to the countryside and starting up a sustainable farm. Which I guess goes a long way towards reflection.
- Fuck work. A week after we got back from HW, I heard about someone quitting upstairs and leaving an appraiser position open. So I started checking our HR website every day to see when the opening would be posted. And then last week - two weeks after hearing about it - I heard that it had been filled. From a pool of candidates that had applied for a different - but similar - position in June. I might have fumed a bit. A lot. Because that essentially cut off my easiest way out of that damn basement.
- I don't really know what I'm doing. So I made a list of lists to fill out and elaborate and hopefully come up with more of a Plan. Or even plans. Or just Steps I Can Take. I'm very good at coming up with ideas and things to do, but I am so very easily distracted - Lady has seen me on countless occasions start to do one thing, stop to do something else, then pause that to start a third thing, and follow up by completely forgetting to finish the very first thing I started, and then maybe washing some dishes.
- So I made a list of lists. Which I'm going to add to and let stew and I think then maybe I should probably set about prioritizing them so things actually, you know, get done.

- I made gluten free sourdough last night, but it turned out like a hunk of, well, really dense bread. Actually, it had an amazing taste, but it didn't seem to rise at all, as if the yeasts just couldn't get up the gumption or didn't have enough to eat. They were there, all right, because it was just like a sourdough English muffin and was great with butter. It was just... dense. :/
- There is chevre culturing in our microwave. I'm crossing my fingers that it will amount to something more than a milky mess by the time I get home.
- I should probably go back to work.
- eh.
