She's a cat 4 now, but she's veered further west, so we should be (mostly) fine. I woke up to heavy rain a few times last night, but the power's still on and the coffee got made.

There's always a weird sort of... disappointment when you've made all the hurricane prep, hunkered down, only for it to amount to nothing. Relief comes later, but I'd liken it to going to the doctor for some weird symptoms only for those symptoms to disappear and the doctor to look at you like you're crazy. Like, yeah, glad it wasn't something dangerous, but how likely will you go to the doctor again if those symptoms re-appear?

Yet the further west this hurricane tracks, the more likely we'll have school for the kids tomorrow and Friday, which I would very much like because a) fewer days added to the school year, later, and b) tomorrow is my birthday and I wanted to do something fun. Originally, I'd planned to tube down the Ichetucknee, a plan that included several of my favorite things: being outside, swimming, and just chilling. Even when I was making these plans all of 4 weeks ago, I thought, huh. Wouldn't it suck if we had a day of thunderstorms.

Wouldn't it, indeed.

My backup plan had been to drive to Ocala and the B&N there and chill for an afternoon, reading books and drinking coffee, before splurging on as many books as I could carry and heading back. The storm certainly complicates that plan, as well. So if anybody has any ideas as to how to celebrate turning 37 when all the outdoor spots are likely closed and the roads are crap...

And related to my personal actions somehow affecting the weather, I swear as soon as I put the chickens in the garage yesterday, the storm veered west. The cone was tracking almost directly over us up until that hour, and then it was headed for Tallahassee instead. That happened last year, too, with Ian. Supposed to track way further north, then carved inland much sooner. Maybe I should put the chickens in for every storm, just as a way to ward them off.

Anyway, time to think about what to do with two rambunctious kiddos when we'll still have some high winds for the rest of the day.
