It's monsoon season. A little early this year, but I'm not going to complain. I kind of love how it gets ridiculously, insanely hot in June and then just BAM - thunder and clouds and rain rain rain. You go outside and it's "only" 100, and then in the afternoon the clouds build and break and storm and it smells so good.

Of course last night it was less than ideal. Power went out around 7pm, just as the rain went sideways. I couldn't see across the parking lot for a while there and water was coming in under the front door and through the windows. The lights flickered a few times and I had the forethought to find a flashlight before the power went completely.

We lit candles and watched the rain and the ridiculous people out in the rain and read and pet cats. When it finally calmed down, I took a short walk to assess the damage: lots and lots of downed branches and one big tree completely uprooted. The ceiling of our porch was peeled partially off and the lamps that dot the complex were missing covers and bulbs.

The power still wasn't on, so we tried to sleep. But it was hot and stuffy and there were a lot of people out, looking at the damage and sleep didn't really happen. Finally, the power came back around 2am and we had a/c again and it was so. good.

Other things this weekend:

- We painted the living room and office and kitchen back to a semblance of white. So long, lovely warm welcoming colors. I keep telling myself we only have to live with these sterile walls for 3.5 weeks.

- We narrowed down our want-to-see houses list to 15 and put them in a semblance of priority. We still have time to tweak it this week, but I didn't want to leave it until last minute next weekend. Unfortunately we've already fallen for two of the houses so now we get to spend a week hoping/wishing/worrying that they don't go off market between now and when we can see them.

- We bought a car.

- I am 25 weeks as of today and July is just around the corner and omg the shit really hits the fan in July. We have three weekends left to pack and get rid of things and paint the bedroom. I have officially given up on trying to do anything else outside of getting ready to move, daily maintenance (like cooking), and taking care of myself (like exercising and sleeping and reading). There is just no time. Thankfully we spent a lot of the last year doing all the Tucson things we'd been meaning to do.

- Omg that car.

- It's so nice. ;.;

- We have a Nice Thing and it's kind of weird because I always saw myself as the kind of person who would be forever buying cheap cars off Craigslist and always wondering when they would break next.

- I want to go on this adventure already.

I think someone is going to miss monsoon season. We haven't had a storm yet, but I blamr the Phoenix heat island that tends to roast the clouds before they manage to get here, which means the cells have to get HUGE in order to blow past it.

During a storm or before it rolls in we'll sometimes crank the AC down to keep it more comfortable if the power goes out.

So does the car have a name yet?

I'm going to miss monsoon like I miss the clockwork afternoon storms in Florida. Aah, there's just nothing like big, sudden, violent storms.
I didn't know that about Phoenix! Well, I knew it was hotter up there, but not that your heat kept the storms away. Bummer. Hopefully you get a good one soon. :)
As for names, leaning towards something dragony but still undecided.

I believe that's the primary reason we've had fewer, but more violent storms and I've seen many decent thunderheads pretty much dissolve as they hit the heat dome. You should pay attention to the radar images, it's pretty surreal to watch the good, angry green just dissolve as it gets close to the greater Phoenix area.

I've lived in AZ for 25 years now and Chris had been here his whole life. His mom is a native too and they can attest to it. Just like our little San Tan mountains on the border of Maricopa and Pinal used to get a dusting of snow more years than not and it just doesn't happen now. Makes me sad.

Gorbash! Or maybe not. First thing to pop in mind, but I think he was greenish colored, not blue.
