Most important first:

- We're moving to Michigan at the end of July/beginning of August. We were there just last weekend so Lady could interview and present a seminar about her research and not even within 24 hours of being back in the desert, she had an offer from them.

- She accepted, of course, but not without some discussion. This meant saying no to re-applying for France and therefore the death of a dream we've shared since last July, which wasn't small change. But it would be insane to keep trying for France when she's just as excited about this project. Usually, I'm a romantic and all about try until you die for the thing you want most, but even I see that continuing to try for France would be ridiculous with a baby due in October and this lab obviously being such a good fit for Lady. Still, that romantic side of me is tut-tutting and whispering under her breath about giving up, which isn't a good feeling.

- It doesn't help that Michigan is COLD and NORTHERN, i.e. dark. They get ~10 more days of sun a year than Seattle, for Pete's sake. And ice storms. And it was 40 degrees when we were there at the end of April, the trees still bare late winter flowers in bloom.

- That said, we'll FINALLY get to rent a house (cost of living is super cheap there) and have a garden and a grill and wear comfy scarves and go apple picking and walk along a river path (with actual water in the river, btw) and ice skate outdoors and watch the leaves change and go kayaking and be near relatives and chase FAT squirrels and enjoy real farmer's markets and wrap ourselves in blankets and invest in several space heaters.

- So yeah. It'll be okay. I guess. :P

- Lady's foot is still unworking. We are beyond the point of ridiculousness and frustration and anger to outright despair. She's switching doctors because the current one can't be bothered to contact the insurance to reschedule a peer-to-peer despite Lady TELLING THEM that the insurance claimed they never heard anything from the doctor and therefore wouldn't exactly be contacting them any time soon. Basically: insurance is an asshole but the doctor is also being incompetent as fuck. It has officially been a month since the canceled MRI and Lady has progressed (in just that time) from limping to wearing a boot to now needing crutches. Not. Cool.

- Crutches and boot, I might add, we had to acquire for ourselves off Craigslist. Thanks, doctor. /sarcasm

- This has caused a lot of angst because as you know from my DITLs, we both like to go on long walks and hikes, especially before the weather turns to Instant Heat Death. Lady has had to sit out the entirety of spring and good weather and I am PISSED. Especially since this is our last spring here. So I drove her out to this teeny park with paved paths this morning because she needs some fucking cholla blooms, dammit. It took an hour for us to go 1/5th of a mile but it was gorgeous and worth it.

- Fuck doctors. Fuck insurance.

- To round this all up, I will be 17 weeks on Monday (in two days) and I am not feeling it. We have an appt at the end of next week that I am looking forward to because I don't have really any other indications that I'm pregnant aside from: a) getting fatter and b) daily shitty headaches. On the one hand it's really nice to feel normal and human again (fuck the first trimester) but on the other hand, at least when I was nauseated and exhausted, I knew for sure things were all right.

- Have a photo of a bee.

Ah! Sorry about that. It was kind of a spur of the moment decision, wherein she found someone on Craigslist and we went over an hour later. Have you tried selling it on Craigslist? Most people sell crutches, not boots, at least around here, so boots are in higher demand.

Wow, I'm sure Michigan will be a huge change for you guys weather-wise. But I hope you enjoy it nonetheless! Welcome to the midwest!

I know right? We went from FL to WA to AZ and now to MI. We are gluttons for extreme changes in climate, apparently. At least this means we're due to go somewhere nice and warm again after. My vote is the Caribbean. I'm sure there are microbiology labs there. :)

Oooh Michigan, that sounds fun. I almost went to college there but decided to remain in England and go to university there, instead.

That is such friggin' NONSENSE regarding the doctors and insurance.

Hope your appointment goes well. <3

Thanks! It did. The doctor actually tried some stuff and we'll get to see tomorrow if it's helping.

Congrats to hear about the moves and I am glad you were able to find and list some of the positives about it. So sorry to hear about her foot. How frustrating that no one seems to be willing to get their act together and help. Mfers sometimes seem like they are just in it for their paycheck, not the well being of the patients. And feeling nothing during pregnancy won't last much longer because soon you will *feel* that little one moving around in there. Any little teeny tiny flutters or bumps you may have already felt are most definitely the beeb. Everyone carries their own way though so don't be worried!
