It's a holiday, so of course I get up earlier than usual so we can meet up with members from our gym and go for a morning run.

Obligatory hair-taming...

And tamed.

A shot of french press to get going.

I drink mine while checking the internet for anything new.

But more specifically, the weather. It looks like it's going to be a gorgeous day!

Then I wake up the Lady, who has been thoroughly harassed by cats by now.

...it takes her a whole to wake up...

But we depart for the car on time. I notice it's already drizzling: Hooray!

On the way to Sabino, I can't help but feel like we're back in Seattle.

Nor can I stop looking at the clouds.

We wait for everyone to gather.

Check the map... yup, it really is 3.5 miles uphill. And then back.

We run (most of) the 3.5 miles successfully, although we might have petered out on the very last stretch uphill, we make up for it by running a bit on the way back. The sun is definitely up when we get back, although it's obscured still.

Time check: a lot later than I was expecting. We were out on the trail for over two hours.

Cat feeding time is usually 6:30. They're not dead, even though we feed them a bit later today.

Food time! Eggs, bacon, sweet potato, and coffee. Om nom nom.

Internet a little more while Kona tries to get my attention.

Then we lock the cats into the bedroom and bring Doug's bird out for some free time.

Write up a to-do list. It's going to be a busy day off!

We bop into Trader Joe's to grab a few last things we need.

Then I gather my cupcake-making supplies. Today: blue velvet and gf red velvet.

Lady scrubs down the bathroom while I bake.

BLUE.

Quickly wash everything, then turn around and make the next batch.

RED.

The color is intense and the crumb is amazing. I love Sprinklebakes' cupcake recipes.

Time for lunch before I get too sick from cupcake batter. Chicken and kale slaw.

Then I head out to the other gym to meet up with

I make her do jumping jacks to warm up. I am a cruel, cruel man.

Then we do goblet squats, shrugs, and something I have marked in my notebook as the "terrible tricep thing."

When we finish, we're greeted by a wall of black. We're both inordinately excited.

And I can never pass up the opportunity to take a picture of someone taking a picture. :D

Then back home, to find Lady has iced the cupcakes and preformed other tasks on the to-do list.

I marvel at a red velvet and we split one to make sure they came out all right.

I return to my computer to select a photo to fill the vacant spot on our wall.

That's better.

The sky opens up and it starts pouring. HOORAY!

Lady catches me running out into it.

Back inside and toweled off, I work on the flowers...

...and the table...

We head out to pick up our CSA share. Man, this weather is amazing!

Our haul for the week.

I noticed the Rillito was running when we crossed over it on our way back home, so I run out to see for myself. One of the very few times it lives up to the name of "river."

Lady makes beer brats for the party while I make (unpictured) steak and hamburgers.

People arrive!

Lady's labmate and her beau.

A 4th year NCF student who is interning at the UofAZ for the summer also comes over.

Meats and sangria!

People choose their meats. And veggies. And fruit.

People eat their meats. And cupcakes.

And when all the plates and meats are cleared away, Apples to Apples happens.

Eventually the game is out and people depart and we are left to prepare coffee...

Harass cats...

Clean up...

...and go to bed.
