I haven't quite fallen off the face of the world yet, although sometimes it feels a bit like it. Life has actually been pretty slow; my quietness on the LJ front is more due to removing the internet connection whenever I buckle down to work, as well as putting my energies towards the photography blog.

So I'm still tickling along, still unemployed despite a slurry of applications. I think the most disheartening aspect of still being unemployed is not so much my state of unemployment, but that absolutely no one has gotten back to me, returned an e-mail, phone call, or made any contact whatsoever. Am I doing something wrong? Is there some sort of e-mail job application etiquette I'm completely missing? Is there something horrendously wrong with my resume? Or is the job market really just that different from what it was when I last applied for jobs? Because then at least eventually someone got back to me.

Slightly less disheartening has been my writing (unlike the structure of that sentence). I was more than a little afraid that once given as much time on my hands as I have now, I wouldn't write a single thing. But the opposite has been true - I can write for hours on end, just like I used to in high school. It's so deliciously freeing - I've written 5k in one day several times now. At this pace I'll have the edit of Dreamer done in a week and I can let it rest while I start a completely fresh story.

In the meantime I'm kind of looking for some beta readers who have some time on their hands and are willing to tell me exactly what they think. Problem of course is that that can be a lot to ask, especially since pretty much everyone I know has a full time job. So I'm also looking for a writing group in the area which does critiques.

Beyond the writing, I took Barbara out into the wastelands for a quick shoot of the location. That post will be up at my blog on Tuesday. :)

And in completely other news: I gave Lady a ring. :DD So now we're even. And equally engaged. And somehow my cousins found out and my mom told my grandma and my other aunt, so basically that side of the family (my mom's side) knows now and the other side suspects. Maybe this whole coming out and telling them I'm engaged won't be nearly as hard as I thought? :D

From what I've heard, Tucson is just in a REALLY horrible spot for jobs right now :-( I'm sorry you're having such a hard time getting people to at least call you back.

Yeah. It seems like that's the case for most places, but it didn't seem nearly as bad in Seattle when we left. :

If I may ask - are you set up on a photo hosting site, or did you make your own website and set up your own galleries?

I made my own website. I actually had a different domain with the web hosting service earlier (wanted to grab my name :D), then decided to roll with them once I decided I wanted a website of my own. As for the galleries, I half set them up myself. The other half was the help of wordpress apps, since I don't know nearly as much website coding as I used to.

Ah. I'm trying to decide between rolling my own site, using someplace like smugmug, or some combination of the two.
