Warning: Pregnancy update. Starting...

I am so tired. It doesn't matter how much sleep I get. By 10, I'm ready for a nap. By 2, I'm a zombie. By 5, well.

I am not terribly hungry or nauseated, but if I don't eat enough I get light-headed and have fun heartburn and burps. It's kind of weird, but entirely manageable.

/end update

Lady just got turned down by Oxford, which is a weird sort of relief. To recap, she applied for a postdoc there a bit ago and they decided to interview her last Wednesday. It was a little funny because at first they were like, can you come to this specific place in the UK? And she was like, howabout Skype? And they were like, oooh.

Apparently they passed on her because she doesn't have the skill set required, but I suspect it's also because they didn't realize she was out of country and probably didn't want to pay the rehousing. :)

Anyway. It's a relief because I think we would have turned it down anyway. Very little pay for a very expensive city and Lady's not even very excited about what they're doing. Also, we both still have our hopes set on France.

Which, weirdly, we still have a chance at. Three chances, even. It may seem crazy to continue pursuing this when we've had two previous chances torn away, but we both really, really want this. I just hope third (fourth [fifth]) time's a charm and we don't look too foolish.

Warning unsolicited advice.

They don't tell you about utter, disabling exhaustion in pregnancy. It's not just you, it's a real thing. Not everybody gets this but when it happens it's truly disabling. R had to get disability payments because it was really so bad he couldn't manage a ten minute bus ride, and she had to go out of work on leave earlier than planned.

We were just talking to the midwife and she said sometimes, with a first pregnancy, the immune system spends a lot of energy being really confused about what this weird new thing is, and it just wipes you out completely. Lots of people bounce back after the first trimester, but R was just wiped out constantly for the whole pregnancy.

R says just sleep. Sleep and sleep and eat and sleep some more. If you have any option to get disability, talk to your medical team and convince them you should get it, to sign you forms or whatever they have to do.

Good luck with all the things! Thinking of you and hoping everything will be good, easy, and healthy.
