Well, we're back! We got home Tuesday afternoon with plenty of time to get groceries and do some cooking and laundry and chores and - of course we just pet cats and went to bed early instead.

Seattle was good. It was amazing and autumnal and everything we remembered and then it was time to go home, and that was good, too. It felt a lot like closure, honestly. We left after only two years there and neither of us was ready to go at the time. We've missed it for the last five years and built it up more than a little in our memories. So going back was like coming home, in a way - it was so familiar, (almost) everything the way we had left it, but we were different.

We exulted in the food and the sights and the leaves and yes, even the rain, but by Monday we were ready to go home - back to Arizona and sunlight and open skies and starry nights. Seattle was good for us when we lived there and it was a good place to visit, but I don't know when we'll be back. It was good to finally be able to say good bye.

Whew, that got heavy. Here, have some photos after the cut.

Our flight out was at 6am, so we got to watch the sun rise over the Catalinas.

And Dr Lady, who turned 30 that weekend and whom I love very, very much. <3

Oh man. The way you described the home/goodbye feeling above is how I imagine I will feel the next time I visit Seattle. I have a huge love for Seattle but know I could never live there again after so much warmth and sunshine, though we could certainly use rain. Ugh, you said it so perfectly. I need to get back for a visit regardless. Hell I haven't been to Portland since my parents moved here nearly three years ago and I used to go multiple times a year.

Your pictures are lovely and happy birthday Dr Lady!

I think it would really help you too to go back. It is such a marvelous city, but the world is very big and there are better places for both of us in it. :)

Thank you!!

I feel the same way about sunny places. It exhausts me after too long. I'm extremely fair though, so it makes sense I think. The damp cold here can be it's own form of cozy exhaustion too.

I'm glad you had good closure!

I get exhausted by sun, but it takes much, much longer. I think it helps that I grew up in Florida. :)

So did you bring the rain back with you? Haha.

Sounds like a good trip and a lovely way to celebrate a birthday.

I did, apparently! It's all cloudy and rainy and chilly today. :) Which is fine, because I know it'll be sunny in a day or two. Much easier to deal with.
