Bad News Bears

spryngThe post-doc whose position Lady would have filled did not get the job he applied for, even though he scored 1st on the exam. The researcher blames politics, and I am really not surprised. What this means is that there is not a readily available position for Lady to just come over and fill, but she can still make her own if she secures funding.
Downsides: This way was supposedly more of a sure shot. Also, Dr Lady really really liked this specific project.
Upsides: Now Dr Lady can apply for a grant that would pay her better. We would have more time to get our shit together. Whether or not she gets the grant would be based on her own merits and the project and not political whims.
Honestly, I was kind of expecting this. And I'm also kind of relieved. We could have upped and moved in six weeks across the country and ocean, but I wasn't really ready. Gives me more time to practice my French. ;)
The biggest downside, really, is that we have absolutely no idea what kind of chance Dr Lady has at getting the grant. So we're be back into the fun hurry-up-and-wait phase of life, unfortunately. But we do know that we will stay in Arizona for the next four months.
Which means: I will go find a part-time job. Dr Lady can slow down in lab. We will contact the ob-gyn and ask about clomid for next cycle. We will get to have another winter in the desert. We can at least plan for the next few months.
TL;DR - "No" on immediately moving to France, but still a good chance we could move in March.
