spryng: (books)

One: Books. I think I love books. Specifically ones about necromancers. This seems, perhaps, to my friends and others something obvious, but for me it's been a long time coming. I don't remember exactly when it happened, but I rather like the undead, and, 'versley, I rather like those who can control them. I was just reading two books about necromancers and now I am desperately itching to write a ton of short stories about necromancers for NaNoWriMo this year, even though I had been previously planning to skip NaNoWriMo entirely. I love their hubris. And their cluelessness. And undead elks.

Two: Doctor Who. WHY ARE WE ALREADY AT THE END OF THIS SEASON?? I don't even like this season! But what! Tonight is the last episode! What!

Three: Work. Exciting things that are in no way shape or form concrete! So, the lady we've been training with (trained with) has been talking all along about how she's been wanting to be an appraiser and NOW SHE IS. Which means: open position! Specifically the one that's right above ours! I am excited. I have had my sights on her position ever since being hired and hearing that she wanted to move on, but never thought it would be this soon. Problem: her position calls for one year of experience with my position. Which can be a problem when HR is involved. My boss still seems to be encouraging me to apply, which is good. I think. I want her job. I don't have the experience. We'll just have to see if that matters.

Four: Wedding. Which I feel like I'm talking about exponentially more now that it's over with than before. Man. That was so incredibly draining. But incredible. I'm definitely still processing it.

Five: Writing. WHICH IS NOT HAPPENING. Must rectify before it all comes shooting out my ears. Maybe I can finish this draft before November and NaNoWriMo? That would be a feat.

There are 14 eps in this season, including the Christmas special. The split seasons (this one and last one) are due to the US TV market and "mid season". The longer gap between each part of this season should mean that they don't need a "doctor lite" ep like in previous seasons - which is due to UK TV production schedules. They would normally have had 12 eps per season max. US syndication requires min 13 eps.

I always liked the take on necromancy in Garth Nix's Old Kingdom/Abhorsen trilogy. If I could have a bandolier of bells, I'd be a necromancer too, darnit!
