Jul. 21st, 2012 12:59 pmYesterday was a DITL day and I started out with my camera in hand, but by the end of the day I was just sort of dumpy and let it slide. That and I didn't feel like bringing my brick of a camera with me when I went for a walk in the storm. Which, I must say, there's nothing quite like. There's a solitude in the middle of the rain which you cannot reliably get elsewhere - no one else seems to want to brave it. Plus, it's a strange relief to be cold in the middle of summer here, to have a rash of goosebumps and wish for a coat while listening to the susurration of heavy raindrops hitting sand.
Still, I had a day, so here are some pictures.

I'm already starting out by cheating - this is from the weekend, when rain was coming in through the window (and the ceiling and under the door). You can't see the rivulets here, but you can see the soggy towel catching it.

Crossfit happened, for the first time since Monday. I kinda took a hiatus mid-week when I felt like I was going up against a wall in Monday's workout. I felt as if everything had been drained out of me. Friday went much better.

Also I'm glad I went Friday because: row + sledgehammers + tires = awesome. I love sledgehammers!

Kicked. Ass.

Afterwards we were both completely covered in dust and dirt, though. Was a lot thicker than this photo makes it look, trust me.

On the way to work, we might have stopped by Raging Sage. Their scones are the absolute best and I had been craving them for weeks. So we finally caved and it was totally worth it. Worth the grogginess I felt later and worth the crazy crazy sugar rush I got that morning.

And then there was rain. I left work an hour early because we were supposed to go up onto Mt Lemmon for some camping, but all the rain coupled with Lady not feeling well led to us staying home. We're going to try again tonight - we really want to get up there and out of this damn heat.
Things I learned yesterday:
- Sometimes, when you feel like shit and you can't keep going, it's your body telling you to rest. And it's better to rest than to push through, even though you feel like a wimp.
- Sometimes, this leads to the perfect storm for an incredibly rush of energy. I accidentally did a rest + carb refeed for three days, then topped it off on Friday with highly processed carbs, which in turn made me quite literally bounce off the walls. While I feel a little bad for my coworkers, I'm also stoked to use this new tool for the 5k in August. Because I really wanted to run that morning.
- Gin actually makes me less sad. Weird.
- Pedal pushers are a style of pants, not a kind of salesman. The more you know!
- People may not go out in the rain here, but they will appear immediately after it passes. With many dogs.
- Donuts are never, ever, ever, ever worth it.
- But scones from Raging Sage totally are.
