(I recently joined the [livejournal.com profile] ditl community, which is a Day In the Life type project where you go around with a camera and document your day every eight days. It's a lot of fun and it's getting me using my camera again which I've been in sore need of. You should do it sometime, too, so I can creepily peer into your life like a hired stalker. :D )

may-197
Didn't sleep well - woke up at 2:30 and then every twenty minutes thereafter. Finally get up a few minutes before my alarm goes off and put the kettle on.

may-198
Set up the French press for our pre-workout caffeine jolt.

may-199

may-201

may-202
I decide to take a shower while the press steeps.

may-204
Mixing up my no-poo concoction. Baking soda and vinegar, FTW.

may-203
'Cause I got to do something with this bedhead. After getting my hairs cut last weekend, I'm quickly rediscovering short hair's crazy, crazy ways.

may-207
Put on my deo, post shower. Another concoction - this one coconut oil and baking soda. It works surprisingly well. But hasn't cured the nasty scratches I got from one of the cat's earlier.

may-206
Time to wake up the Lady; Darjeeling is playing guard kitty this morning.

may-209
Dressed for whatever they can throw at us at Crossfit this morning.

may-215
Still have a few minutes, so I check movie times for later tonight.

may-212
...and quickly rip a few CDs from the next audiobook for my workday.

may-217
On our way - the sky is already light and it's not even ten past five.

may-219

may-221
Our box recently moved to new digs, so all they've got is a sketchy sign out front.

may-223
It's pretty sweet inside, though.

may-225
5:30am class, warming up.

may-226
Check out the board for the workout - snatch grip remaining dead lift, then 8 rounds of 10 dumbbell cross chops, 6 jumping lunges, 5 push-ups. Not too bad, I think.

may-227
What was that I said about not too bad? Oh god - my arms were falling off by the end of that workout. And then our coach revealed that she had doubled the number of cross chops on us.

may-228
Sun is fully up now - it's 6:30.

may-229

may-230
Lady fixated on catching that one drop of sweat with the camera.

may-232
Get home, feed the cats.

may-234
Make the real coffee.

may-235
Clean up the now empty fritatta pan.

may-238
Short hair strangely takes more effort than shoulder-length. I spritz it with homemade hairspray and clip the unruly bits in place.

may-236
And lo, I'm a real human being again.

may-241
Dab on an imp from Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab.

may-242
Back into the car so Lady can drop me off at the bus stop - I wouldn't make it in there in time if I walked now.

may-243
Full light - it's past 7am. Only going to get hotter from here.

may-246

may-248

may-250
It's the Friday of a three-day weekend: there was no one on the roads or the bus and I get to work pretty early.

may-252
No time for breakfast before leaving, so I eat it at work. Sausage, coffee, my audiobook-filled ipod and my first list.

may-253
I steal the last few minutes to check my email.

may-254
Time for the run - we take turns running the mail to the other departments. I love getting the chance to leave the building.

may-256
The elevator in the old courthouse - the only way to get to the basement. It's very helpfully labeled.

may-260
The basement is full up with old records.

may-262
...and creepy locked doors. This one in particular has been slowly opening further and further each day. There's a combination on the open door and another lock on the inner one and I really, really don't want to know what's in there. I leaned in one day in passing, to peer in and prove I wasn't easily terrified, and when I heard scuffling noises, ran like a bat.

may-264
This door leads to freedom and sunlight.

may-266
Lunchtime! Zucchini from our CSA share roasted and stuffed with goat cheese and sprinkled with balsamic.

may-267
...and time again to get the heck out of the building for my actual lunch break.

may-268
I get to walk by my old work place every day. Sometimes I stare up there and wonder who works there now.

may-270
Something going on in my usual lunch haunt. A wedding...?

may-273
I park myself down and get to writing in my favorite corner.

may-275
Back to work and it's time for iced tea and frittata.

may-276
At four I get to set my desk up for standing height. It's a long story.

slowestclock
Time ticks by slower than frozen molasses.

may-280
FINALLY.

may-281

may-284
Lady picks me up from work so we can go straight to dinner. It's date night!

may-286
Ciao, downtown!

may-287
Sushi time!

may-289

may-293
So good.

may-295
Afterwards, we have to stop by the lab to pick up some meat and for Lady to do some SCIENCE.

may-297
This means Serious Science.

may-299
Very Serious.

may-301
Finish the science -

may-318
Grab the meats -

may-304
- and then we go to an Asian market to pick up red bean mochi, having decided that going to a movie on a Friday night may not be the most fun.

may-305
Target acquired.

may-309
Mochis, wine, and the second season of Community - this is a successful date night.

may-312
It's late - I clean up the kitchen and get ready for bed.

may-315
But only after marveling at how crazy our cat is.

may-316
The clock still thinks it's February - its battery keeps falling out these days. Poor thing is getting old.

Oh man, that lunch sounds amazing! I never thought of stuffing zucchini with goat cheese!!
Where did you go for sushi?

Yoshimatsu - they have that "sushimatsu" corner that is pretty delicious.
We got a huge zucchini from the CSA and I had been thinking all day about what to do with it. Somehow I got stuffed zucchini stuck in my head and it was only a short hop to goat cheese and roasting from there. I bet you could do all sorts of delicious concoctions with zucchini in that manner. I bet we'll have the opportunity to try it out on you at some point. :D

DITL is so neat... I'd always forget to take the pics, though.

Cooking sometime? I have veggies that need going.

It helps that I have a big hulk of a camera, but even then I was still constantly forgetting. I could have had more photos of my breaks at work, but I forgot to take the camera with me - twice.
Also: yes. We're vamoosing to Patagonia for today, but we'll still need to cook up a storm tomorrow if you want to come on down. <3

i love these. I love DITL. i keep wanting to do one of my own, but the nature of my job (work with kids whose parents don't understand English well enough to understand what i'd mean if I asked for permission to take & pot photos) means that if I did one, it would be a ton of ceiling pictures or boring pictures of workbooks.

DITL kind of forces you to work around those limitations, though, and find ways to document the corners of your day. The nature of my job might as well be staring at the ceilings, but that's why a lot of other people who do DITL take photos of their food in the middle of the day. There's still so much out there to photograph, so many interesting little details. Even if it means most of your pictures come from the two-three hours that bookend your day.
It also means a lot of people post tons of cat photos, but, well, it's the internet. There are never too many cat photos. :)
