I did it! In 34 minutes and I placed ~600 out of ~900 participants, but I did it!

It was pretty awesome. And awful. I sailed through the first mile, then started feeling it around the second, and then BAM, my adductors (or whatever the hell that inner thigh thing is) stiffened up like taunt strings. It hurt, a lot, but I persevered somehow and even managed to sprint the last .1 mile to the finish. And then promptly doubled over in pain. And then limped around for a while and for most of the rest of the day.

But I did it! I even jumped over all those obstacles, i.e., four or five hay bales and a handful of water-filled trenches. Those were obnoxious, but only because all the other girls balked at them and it led to a traffic jam. Oh well. Next year, I'll try and wedge myself closer to the front of the pack so I can have more of a fighting chance actually jumping the water, instead of having to trudge through it.

I'm already excited for my next 5k. I'm hoping to break 10min/miles. :D

The rest of the day was good. Except for the limping part. We came home and started on the cookings. Made turkey (of course) and apple+chestnut stuffing and cranberry sauce (drool) and sweet potato casserole and salad and pecan pie. My first time making pecan pie and my first success at a pie crust. Normally, I suck at those things. But apparently blind baking is the way to go, and the way to avoid a soggy crust. Good to know!

Then we watched the 2000 Dungeons and Dragons movie with hot cocoa and bourbon and were appalled with just how amazingly bad that movie was. Oh man. So bad. Like, Manos Hands of Fate bad. Seriously.

And I was thankful. Thankful for life. Thankful for Arizona. For Tucson. For the opportunities Lady has found here. For her science. For her professor. For my short-lived employment in the mayor's office. For our kitties. For being born into middle class families and reaping all the benefits from those privileges. Thankful for friends, both here in Tucson and beyond, in all those other states and countries. Thankful for family. For candy corn. For the internet. For the 21st century. For ample food and the funds to purchase it. For not going hungry and not having to worry about rent (at least for the next few months). For computers and writing and bad movies and awesome music. For crossfit and finally figuring out what it takes to get me to exercise. For being goddamn stubborn. For D&D. Thankful for being able to love and live and not have to worry about my next panic attack. Thankful for all the support you guys give me. <3

Hope you had a beautiful day, both today and yesterday. May your fridge be stuffed with leftovers for many days to come. :D

Look at that lady in the pink. Man, she's just not even trying.

But you!! Congrats! That's really awesome, and I'm even more inspired by you to keep running. ^_^
