Whew. That was a whirlwind of a relaxing weekend. Something about a four-day weekend where two of the days are spent primarily in transit just doesn't really ease the mind.

Still, we got some stuff done and we got some stuff eet and we got some sleep, well, sleeped. On the top of our priority list (aside from seeing her lovely sister and their house and feeling the baby kick) was checking out venues for the wedding. We had our hearts set on the Riley-Jacques barn, which is not only cheap, but next to a lake and big and quiet and pretty much exactly what we were going for. But, alas, the town only rents their facilities to current residents, which we are not and which we couldn't find. And my idea to wander the park grounds and find someone to bribe was thoroughly nixed. Alas.

So we went off to the intertubes and looked at other places. Considered park pavilions, but my heart just wasn't in it, no matter how cheap they'd be. Considered apple orchards, but those weren't nearly as exciting as they were in my head. Considered a woodsy recreation center, complete with cabins you can rent, but, well, we're not going for woodsy. Then her sister suggested Gale Woods Farm and I saw the picture of the big red barn and thought this couldn't possibly be it.

But we went and looked and its big and clean and red and there are chickens nearby and sheep and a lake and its rather gorgeous. So I think we found our venue. :) And it'll definitely hold a contra dance. And tons of autumn flowers. Huzzah!

In other wedding-ish-related news, I also found out my brother will be deploying come Feb and not coming back until early Sept. Which at first glance is highly fortuitous timing and on further thought, not so much. It's the navy, so date slippage is a given, and when I asked him if he had any idea how much slippage was common, all he could say was between a week to a couple of months. So we'll just have to set the date and cross our fingers. At least I'll know he's out fighting pirates, otherwise.

So backing off from wedding stuff (because I'm sure in a few months you will be inundated - INUNDATED), the diet is still going. I still can't decide if continuing it through the weekend was the best or worst idea ever. On the one hand, I managed to not eat a single cookie, brownie, cake, muffin or sugar-laden caffeinated beverage. On the other hand, I didn't get to eat a single cookie, brownie, cake, muffin or sugar-laden caffeinated beverage from Caribou. I had a lot of fruit instead. A lot. Of fruit.

I've noticed all of my cravings for sugar have dissipated, including any cravings for fruit. It's actually kind of weird to go about my day not thinking about all the delicious things I have waiting for me at home or for a snack. There's been a definite mental shift towards just eating when I'm hungry until I'm full. Which is good, very good for me, actually, considering my tendency to eat the whole package of cookies in one go. I have poor impulse control when it comes to food, yet I've managed not to eat any of the "illegal" foods the last two weeks, nor have I even been tempted for the most part. This diet has been going so swimmingly that I'm already re-envisioning my first meal off the diet and it looks nothing like the scone and ice cream and quinoa stuff I originally had in mind.

On the crossfit front, we're now going in the early early mornings so our evenings will finally be free again. Today was our first 5.30am class and it, well - it sucked. But I feel awesome and I'm looking forward to just relaxing tonight. Our days had been much too busy of late, cramming in crossfit in the evenings or climbing or fancy dinner or D&D, all of which I really want to do but can't seem to make the days long enough to fit it in and have a moment to breathe and pet kitties. I'm hoping this will make the days easier and easier for us to see our friends more often.

And now I've rambled on enough.
