For once I didn't get my breaking news from Fark last night - I got it off my friend's page, my FB, and even my Lady. It was like a collective sigh of relief when the health insurance reform bill passed. I mean, it's not what it needs to be and there're still more hurdles to pass, but damn, that felt like finally getting the boulder to the top of the hill. Here's a quick list of what it immediately affects, the most pertinent being that you can no longer be dropped for a condition. Darn straight.

Meanwhile, I'm at Step 8 of the N Steps to Self-Embetterment and (Eventual) World Domination, which is working on a proposal to give to my employers for working part time off-site. I like the idea of knowing I'll still have an income when we move, yes I do.

re: facebook status
i wanted to point out that if lady is getting any paid position at all in AZ (RA, TA, etc) then all your moving expenses are deductible for next year's taxes. I was able to do this with my expenses moving to IN because I teach here, but i would not have been able to if i moved just for school and not because they pay me.

I'll have her look into it - I'm not sure if the money she's getting is considered a stipend or part of a paid position. :/ I know as a grad student she has to work the labs either way, and possibly be a TA, but I'm not sure as to the extent. That would be amazing if we could claim that.

if she's on the university's payroll it's a job. it would be worth it to go to H&R block for taxes next year. pricey, but getting the money back is worth it.
