CHICKENS! CHICKENS. CHICKENS CHICKENS CHICKENS.

We acquired these tiny dinosaurs on Monday. Well, Lora and Lady did and I showed up in time to aid releasing the monsters from their boxes. There's a video of it up on FB with a lot of clucking. The run area is complete and safe and secure, although the coop is not yet fully complete. We were going to finish it up last night, but it turns out we need the aid of a nailgun yet, so we're waiting on someone with one of those to drop by. Then it's just assembling the nest boxes and installing some roosts and it'll be done. The chickens are only pullets yet and shouldn't be laying for a few more months, so we've got time.

It's funny - I thought our coop was just big enough for the twelve chickens, but now that they're in there it looks like we have room to add a few more. They still have some growing to do and it's better to have too much room than too little, at least.

And we have one cross-beaked lady who we noticed after acquiring the chickens. We called her cross-beak for a while until it naturally shortened to Crosby. She's super tenacious and a lot more daring than the other chickens. I fear she's worming her way into our hearts. I did allow myself to get attached to one chicken - just not all of them.

In conclusion, we now have a garden one place and chickens in another. We are going to need all the kitchen scraps.
