Metrics, Day 6
Oct. 7th, 2012 05:49 amStart: 131/200 81,099/123,640
End: 106/199, 66,373/123,102
Oh man. That doesn't look good, does it? Losing almost thirty pages of progress is never fun. But this was the result of figuring out just how far back I had to go to make all the necessary changes to the plot in the re-jiggering of story. There's some I can salvage, perhaps, and I get the feeling that catching back up to where I was shouldn't take very long. But. Well.
In real life, we finally checked out the gym that our apartment complex has given us a free membership to (apparently only one per household, though) and (at least on a Saturday afternoon) it seems a lot better than LA Fitness. Especially considering we went there first, were told many conflicting things about re-upping a guest pass, and then was insulted by the general manager of the store. I had made mention of the fact that the heads on their dumbbells were inconveniently large and made it difficult to perform certain movements and he pulled out a 5lb dumbbell and said "this is too big for you?" At which point I snapped, "no, I'm talking about your 50lb dumbbells," and he replied, "you can lift 50lbs??"
Well, no wonder I feel that - as a woman - I am entirely unwelcome there. Even their manager is a dick. The other place felt marginally more welcoming and at least there weren't creepy guys approaching us while we were lifting, but only a busy evening will tell.
Sometimes, I am so infinitely glad I found crossfit. I have never once felt out of place there, no matter my skill level, and especially not as a girl. I love that they encourage everyone to get strong. I love the communities that have popped up online partially due to the crossfit movement outright imploring ladies to life some serious weights.
We need more ladies lifting weights. We need them so guys like that manager will maybe think for a second about whether or not they're going to get owned before making comments like that. :[
