spryng: (dork)
So life has settled into a definite groove. Worry about things which I have to do during the work week but end up putting them off until the next day, eventual weekend because I'm too tired to do much of anything when I get home, then when the weekend rolls around use it for the more immediate necessary tasks - such as cleaning, cooking, hiking, and getting groceries - and put off the things I'd been worrying about all week for the next weekend. Such things include: getting a WA driver's license, getting more furniture, applying to grad school, emailing profs, doing Greek homework, etc.

Oh life. It seems that the lessons I learned from thesising apparently need to be applied elsewhere in life. That is, strap down, drink shit-tons of caffeine, and just get that shit done. I definitely find myself applying the same procrastination techniques. So yes. I will get this shit done.

...tomorrow.

Work is getting more comfortable by the week. I'm in a weird kind of position, being both a non-temp now, so I've got the street cred, but also still the newest non-temp, so I'm not really in the "in" crowd. Oh small social groups. How predictable you are. At least I can keep myself busy, what with being able to work ahead now. Before, I had to sit and wait for the stuff to roll in and once it was in, do it as quickly as possible, which made for days where I did jack-shit and days where I was up to my eyeballs in things that had to be done that day. Now I'm halfway through Wednesday's work and hoping to be finished with all of next week's stuff by Tuesday. It's good - I have the time to fart around if I want and also the ability to be hyper-productive if I want. Granted, I still desperately wish to do other things with my time, but eh, those other things wouldn't give me money.

Speaking of money, and other things, I've gotten writing every day down to a habit. It's overtaken the Greek I'm supposed to be doing, unfortunately, but I really need to finish GOU before NaNo. Granted, I need to finish the Greek, too, but I think focusing on one at a time might be a better strategy. And I'm like, maybe two pages away from finishing GOU. So freaking close.

And omg NaNo. I can't wait for the candy corn and massive amounts of caffeine. And gingerbread. I am so using Becky as an excuse to bake gingerbread early. If only Black Phoenix Alchemy lab would go ahead and do their winter stuff and include gingerbread poppet - the Samhain one I got way back in August has been so wonderful.

Mmm, scents. How are smells so wonderful and powerful? Sometimes I feel as if, with the right smells, I could just lie about all day. They're like music, in a way, with all their connotations and memories...

Lady's birthday is next Thursday. I don't know what to do!

I made pumpkin pie from actual pumpkin last weekend. It was pretty intense. The making part. The pie part was delicious and we still have enough goop for another pie, thank goodness. Baking and scraping and mooshing and blending took the most time, by far. I completely understand the whole getting it from a can thing. But hey, if you have the time, making it from scratch is worth it. I'm not much of a pumpkin pie fan, but that stuff was good.

Curried lentil soup happened tonight, with pita and a dollop of sour cream and hard cider. I love food so much. I love how there's so many things you can do with it. Doesn't help that we discovered a new grocery store which has tons and tons of interesting things, like three aisles of Asian imported food (you might soon find yourself the owner of some of this, Ana-pants <3), and Indian foods, and a substantial Mexican section as well. Oh, and the cheeses - it's like Whole Foods mated with World Market and Trader Joe's was the nanny.

Wow - it's past midnight. I haven't stayed up this late in weeks. Usually I'm in bed by 10, since I get up so early.

Oh! World of Goo - if you have Valve's Steam, you can download a demo which is basically the first chapter. It's so... deliciously hypnotizing. Despite having sworn not to purchase any more games until January, it's growing harder and harder to resist buying the full version each day. If you haven't heard of it, it's basically a puzzle game with these little, adorable balls of goo. There are different goo balls with different properties and you use them together to accomplish various tasks, like building structures to cross chasms or reach a tall pipe. The best part are the noises the goo balls make - they're just so pleased. Oh, and for those who don't have Steam, here's a sketchy file-sharing site which has the demo.

So yeah, when not not-writing or worrying about things I have to do or sleeping or working, I drool over the various games I want and am sad I don't have time to play them all. And yet, I keep going back to those websites that talk about them. Games currently on this list: Left 4 Dead (Valve's zombie game), Fallout 3 (a post-apocalyptic Oblivion), Dead Space (a FPS with zero gravity), Mass Effect (which is out, but people keep talking about it), Red Alert 3 (their crazy-ass boobs-campaign appears to be working - that and it's Red Alert, which resides in a special place in my heart), Bioshock 2 (world of the little sisters), and Diablo III (did you see the wizard trailer? - now, did you see the "magic missle" attack?). Let alone there's been mention about there being mention before the end of the year for when we might expect Ep3 of Half Life 2. Oh yes. How is it I don't have time for all these things? Argh!

Leaves are turning - I don't think I fully realized how bright fall colors can be. It's simply gorgeous. I gotta take pictures soon.

So, um, yeah. Life = work, writing, food, and lusting for games. Pretty much.
