The Last Week in Photos
Oct. 30th, 2013 06:03 amSo the problem with updating LJ lately is I am drawn two directions: I have all these photos and things we've done to talk about, then I have all these inner thoughts to work through, and neither of those belong in a post together. So I do neither, and keep working on GW instead. Which is almost done!! But not by my deadline!!! But maybe by my new deadline!!!
Two solid months of working on that thing every chance I get and I am so ready to be done and so close and not there yet. My first deadline was Nov 1st, but that was back when I thought the new MS would be 80k words. I will actually hit 80k by then, but the story has ballooned an additional 10k, so I'm hoping if I really buckle down over the weekend, I can be done by Monday. Then I will take a week off before evaluating where to go from there. But still! Almost done!!
Whew, digression. I was trying to talk about everything else, not writing, which has consumed All.
But not pumpkins! And hiking! And birthdays! At least, not yet!

Lady had her birthday last week, but because it was on Wednesday and she wasn't up for terribly much during the week, we kinda split celebrations between the weekends. I made her a peanut butter pie that she has been craving since August and people came over and we watched the Thing and scared Lora and it was Good.

Don't let it's blurry intrigue fool you - that cake has two pie of whipped cream. Omg.

Lady's actual birthday was spent mostly on the floor. With cats. I made her my version of a Belgian endive + beer sauce dish. We had leftover pie. :)

The following weekend (this past Saturday) was both time for the last pie of Pie Month and a proper pumpkin carving.

Kona is, as always, very helpful.

And pie! Pumpkin pie! With a gluten free crust. I'll be posting the recipe over at Speck of Awesome one of these days, because that was the best gf crust I've been able to manage yet.

pennywhistle's finished pumpkin!

And ours.

Then a Lora showed up and fell asleep on our floor. Apparently she had not only been up late, but also been up late running around our apartment complex, trying to find a way in at 3am to deliver a pie pumpkin she had promised. I would've just gone home, but she managed to climb the fence.
This being the desert, our pumpkin has since collapsed on itself. :/ Oh well. The perils of carving early.
