october-5
Like usual, I woke up with my alarm Monday morning.

october-6
Like usual, I put together the french press.

october-7
Like usual, I took an obligatory morning cat photo.

october-9
Unlike usual, I went back to bed and reset the alarm for at least an hour later. It's Columbus Day! We don't have to go to the 5.30am crossfit class! Hoorah!

october-8
I take a shower. Because one always showers before workouts.

october-11
I divvy out the now cold coffee. It still tastes fine.

october-15
...get dressed...

october-16
Lady monster awakens and stumbles out to give pets to the cats.

october-18
...gets shod....

october-19
On our way! I've gotten thoroughly used to a starscape these past weeks, so having sunlight greet us instead is a little startling. Look: clouds!

october-20

october-22
Lady's feelings about doing mountain climbers and 5min of dynamic planks. Ugh indeed!

october-23
I feel like we're driving into the mountains on our way home (the sun is even further up! go figure!!) - I don't know if I could ever tire of the desert.

october-26

october-27
Breakfast! We're both famished when we get home. This week's casserole has the usual sweet potatoes and eggs, plus bonus! italian sausage and green tomato slices. The tomatoes work surprisingly well.

october-28
Nom nom nom.

october-30

october-31
We get ready. Again.

october-32

october-33
Surprise! [livejournal.com profile] pennywhistle!

october-37
We kidnap her and take her to Paradise (aka Panera's).

october-40
Much-needed coffee is consumed.

october-42
[livejournal.com profile] pennywhistle and I work while Lady goes off to class.

october-43
I will finish this thing! My goal is to complete a second round of heavy edits on my current WIP before the end of October. So far I'm on track... -ish.

october-44
Lady returns triumphant from class!

october-45
...so we pick up lunch at Jimmy John's...

october-47
...get in the car...

october-48
...TIME CHECK...

october-49
...and head east!

october-55
Miles and miles and miles

october-56
and miles and miles and miles

october-57
and miles and miles and

october-61
miles and ROCKS and miles and

october-63
miles and [livejournal.com profile] pennywhistles and miles and

october-65
miles and porta-potties and miles and

october-68
miles and KETTLE CORN. Oh. We're there!

october-72
We head off with picking implements to the pumpkin patch!

october-73
...although I get a little distracted by the corn.

october-74

october-76
So many pumpkins! So hard to decide!

october-77
This is the best pumpkin!

october-79
Then we return to the other side of the farm to pick some random veggies. Like okra!

october-78
Although this okra is like none I've ever seen.

october-82
Finally we make it to our actual destination: the orchard! Only to discover that the main reason we came - apple cider donuts! - is not even available on weekdays. But this isn't a weekday! This is COLUMBUS DAY.

Alas.

october-81
Lady poses with the picking gear.

october-87

october-85
We sample the goods, just to be sure of their quality.

october-88

october-91

october-89
It reeks of apple cider in the orchard - I wonder why!

october-94
We leave. I pass out in the back of the car. When I come to, we're here. Only for the Dairy Queen, thank you very much.

october-97

october-98
I... don't know. Lady took this. I was driving.

october-99
We drop off [livejournal.com profile] pennywhistle with dire threats of hard cider and apple pie liquor which never coalesce because we're all pooped.

october-100
Disapproving cat is disapproving.

october-102
Kona attempts to lick all the pumpkins. At the same time.

october-104
Lady internets.

october-105
I internet. And purchase a certain book with a gift card I'd freshly received.

october-108
Then Kona poses next to her pumpkin for me.

october-109
And we eat dinner and watch the Daily Show.

october-111
We decide to walk to TJ's since Lady needed milk and I desperately wanted wine.

october-113

october-114

october-115

october-118
Once back home I pour myself some wine and get back to writing.

october-121
Kona runs around like an idiot and harasses her sister (seen here hiding under the table).

october-122
I decide I'm finished with my edits for the day and update LJ with my metrics.

october-123
Then I brush my teeth

october-125
feed the cats

october-126
watch Lady brush her teeth (creepily)

october-127
and pass out at a most appropriate hour.

OMG, you guys get up SOOOO EARLY. i think that every single time i see one of these.

i've also been thinking of taking up ukelele. did you get that book? I refuse to buy anything with idiots or dummies in the title, but I was looking at a starter kit that actually came with a uke. Is it easy to pick up? I want to play a stringed instruments that promises to be slightly easier on my hands and wrists. maybe i'm wrong thinking of the uke. that's why i'm asking you.

Hahaha! We also go to bed holyshit early. :) It all evens out.
I did - I actually had it out at the library at the most inconvenient time (i.e. right before wedding) and therefore was unable to finish it before it was due. It's got over 10 holds on it so I won't be seeing it again for months. It was the most useful thing I've found so far - there are a number of super basic lessons online and I have another (very basic) book I picked up cheap earlier, but the guide was incredibly methodical and detailed. Which I never expected from those series of books. :) I think they've gotten slightly better over the years because yeah, I remember when an idiots or dummies guide was next to useless.
As for the uke itself - I'm really not a musician, but anything sounds awesome on the uke, even mistakes, so it's very forgiving in that regard. It's neck is pretty tiny compared to a guitar though and some chords are more than a little difficult without lots of wrist twisting. The place I got my uke from had a 30-day full-refund return period, which I'd definitely recommend making sure you can do if you're uncertain about what it'll do to your appendages. That way you have time to try the more annoying chords before fully committing. :)
