A little early even for me, but there are many exciting things to be done this morning.
Like showering!
And kicking the cat out of the bathroom.
And shaving! Which is one of those terrible, monumental tasks.
One in which, inevitably, someone gets hurt.
A lot more human, now.
Pour some coffee. Find out it's difficult to take an action shot of yourself pouring coffee.
Turn on my mainframe and our television stand-in for the day.
Check on the intertubes and be somewhat amazed that a blogpost from the night before has already garnered comments.
Wake up Lady.
Rub coconut oil on my now hairless and no longer bleeding legs.
I begin what I expect to be a long and painful search for some sort of illicit live Olympics feed, only to finally stumble upon a way to view the BBC coverage. So we watch the tail end of the marathon.
Hear a thump against the door - yay, Sunday paper!
The sun is almost up, so we put on our running shoes.
Pretty cloudy morning. Which means it's also pretty humid.
Back from a brisk two mile run. Whew, sweaty!
Check on the fruitfly trap. Our CSA shares have been bringing in the bugs lately.
Lady wills them a vinegar-y death.
Time to make breakfast: trying out a recipe we just recently discovered for whole30 compliant pancakes. Nevermind that technically the idea of pancakes is itself anti-Whole30.
Bananas, almond butter, egg.
Cat breakfast!
Hummingbird breakfast! Except not, because the hummingbird feeder is empty. Will have to rectify that.
Pancakes.
While the pancakes cook, I go to rinse off and find a sink cat.
It's 7:29am and the weightlifting portion of the Olympics we'd been looking forward to all week is about to start.
It's so exciting that Lady is frozen in place.
Breakfast! So good, and actually mimics the consistency of pancakes pretty well.
But of course, the weightlifting is too exciting to fully appreciate pancakes.
Eeeeeeeeeeeee!! Sarah Robles does a magnificent job and is crazy enough to up the weight on her third attempt after failing the previous one.
After watching her lift, we make a run for the farmer's market for one last thing we need for today's cooking extravaganza.
One pork shoulder acquired!
The list of foods to make today. Sunday is our big cooking day which makes the rest of the week much easier. And full of leftovers.
Start work on the items that will take the longest to cook while watching the clean & jerk portion of the competition.
Ginger...
...and spices for the slow-cooked pork.
Double-check the ingredients for mayo...
And set out the egg and lemon juice, which has to come to room temp first (really does make a huge difference).
Finishing up the pork roast.
Chicken's done already! And the weightlifting is over - it was so exciting I forgot to take pictures of the medal ceremony. So many records broken!
It's closing on noon now and I'm feel a little sleepy so I boil some water...
...and make some iced tea.
Lady terrorizes the cats with the Vacuum Monster.
Check the list.
Tea didn't really perk me up, so we both take turns having a brief lie-down.
Have some leftover zucchini noodles and chicken for lunch.
Remember the sad hummingbird and make up a fresh batch of sugar-water.
The egg and lemon are room temp, so I add the olive oil, mustard & salt and emulsify.
It's like magic!
Jarred and fridged. It will last a good two weeks.
The chicken is finally cool too, so I pick the meat off and throw the bones into a pot to make stock.
Lady begins cooking the lo-mein veggies.
While I fill up the hummingbird feeder.
Cabbage "noodles" are added and sauted.
Time to make the andouille. So many spices!
We bake half the andouille into sausage balls and keep the other half for the casserole.
Time to update the list!
And time check. We actually started cooking again around 2pm, so it isn't quite the all-day endeavor it appears to be.
Mixing the fritatta part of the casserole - grated zucchini & carrots + eggs.
Ready for the oven.
Andouilles are done. Time for a snack!
Also time to call mom.
Finished casserole. Monday's verdict: the best casserole ever.
Cats exemplify how I feel.
Almost everything is done!
I start photo-editing mainly to get this bacon-wrapped jalapeno into a blogpost.
We take a short walk because we're both feeling pretty cooped up. But it's over 100 degrees, so it's even shorter than we'd intended.
We do spot the approaching storm.
It blows in quickly and whips the trees into a frenzy.
The roast looks done.
But we decide to have burgers for dinner.
And then the sky opens up.
I'm a little too excited to help with dinner.
The rain is so intense, it starts leaking through our window.
Dinner! Burgers on top of roasted portobellos with a slathering of mayo.
Clean up the kitchen after dinner and stuff some towels into the windowsill.
The storm finally passes, but it's still going vigorously to the south of us.
I finish my new blogpost about making bacon-wrapped jalapenos.
Although the evening is getting late, there's still laundry to be folded and put away.
And cats to feed.
I put in a little bit of writing, but my eyelids are too heavy to squeeze out more than a few meager sentences.
So I give in and go to bed. Not before noting that I still need to update the date on the alarm clock.
