I made a friend a little over a year ago through the power of tea. She was hired (re-hired, actually) around the time I was forced to switch from coffee to tea and she had her own plentiful stash of delicious loose leaf at her desk. We were office friends for a while, as you do, and then the crumpets happened. Of course it only went downhill from there - next I was photographing her ring for their save-the-date cards and going out with her and her fiance for crepes, which apparently is the gateway drug for movies + pizza and eventually Dr. Who + pizza.
I was invited to her wedding, too, and they even toyed (for about a minute) of having me be the photographer, but that idea was much too terrifying at the time. Which, while now that the wedding has happened, I feel like maybe I could've, but really, I appreciate having a few more months of practicing. And it was good to see another wedding photographer in action, since I hadn't really paid much attention to that before. Learned a lot just watching him. :)
Around the time Lady was looking at grad school, Katie's fiance was looking for post-doc work. We commiserated about the possibilities of the cold north, and for a week there was a possibility of all of us ending up in Arizona. But that was not to be - instead they're heading out to Chicago in like, a week. So we've also been commiserating about moving, about looking for apartments and new jobs and possibly rejoicing just a tad at leaving our current jobs.
Anyway, that was just a long bit of updating to help explain that despite knowing Katie for only a year and a handful of months, she's quite dear, and I'm quite glad I got to know her and go to her wedding and do all the things we did and I can only hope that she has tons and tons of crazy fun in Chicago and someday we might be in the same state again. But then that's a true sentiment for most of my friends - at least I'm not the one leaving this time. :)
