Jan. 31st, 2008 04:11 pmWisdom teeth are out. That went surprisingly... painless. I got to wake up a little later than usual since lady wasn't going to work in order to take me. She brought me there and within a few minutes of arriving they had me in the room and with an IV and laughing gas and I had just been thinking about how all I could feel were the effects of the nitrous oxide (one of the few things I like about the dentist >>) and then they were waking me up and I had gauze in my mouth. It's a little weird not being able to remember anything about the actual taking the teeth out part, but being put under is no longer as scary. I was able to never even look at the IV. Yay.
So lady brought me home after grabbing the pain killers and penicillin and I've been subsisting on coffee, pudding, and pills since. So far it's been rather uneventful, in that my cheeks ache a little and I felt a little loopy after I took the first pain killer. Otherwise all's fine. I can talk, although extended talk makes it ache more. I can think. I actually feel quite great. I've locked myself in my room so that I can work a little on the Monster, in fact. This is not at all how I was expecting to feel the first day, but I guess it means I can work tomorrow.
As for classes, they start next week, and I've decided not to take the German class. I should. I want to. But it's my last semester, and I have a lot to read in German for my thesis which I feel makes up for it. So, schedule thus far:
Monday: 11am Greek
12:30pm Ancient Novel
Tuesday: 12:30pm Latin (Catullus)
Wednesday: 11am Greek
Thesis tutorial?
Thursday: 12:30pm Ancient Novel
Friday: 11am Greek
12:30pm Latin
Speaking of thesis I'm wavering back towards the feeling okay about my thesis after Brendan's bacc on Wednesday, which went well, and also reminded me that a thesis is not necessarily a ground-breaking piece of work. If I dig up some stuff on Latin-Gothic interaction and make a few valid points of my own and tie it all together, that will be good enough. Right? Hopefully?
On another note, I love tutoring. The family is so funny. And it's so rewarding getting her to figure things out on her own, even if it takes prodding from me. She's learning and I can see it because they're things I taught her that I can get her to reproduce. Makes me feel a little more confident about my explaining abilities. Also, her mom is so funny, and has been offering my wine or beer almost every session, which I've refused, until the last session where she just gave me a bottle of wine and some wineglasses and a wine opener and remarked on my resilience and how the last tutor had given in to the liquor within the first few weeks. xp I mean, the kid can be a pain sometimes, but that just means you have to be a pain right back. Lol, though. And the glasses are gorgeous. o.o() Only problem then is that I feel like I have to be the best tutor ever.
Okay, getting more coffee and then going to write a page. Woo!
