A Change of Pace
Sep. 24th, 2023 07:06 amWell, I got my wish yesterday: Toddler didn't wake up until almost 7am and Cabin Girl told me that if she didn't wasn't up in time, not to wake her. So I ran the ParkRun on my own, actually completed the 5k, got to listen to music the whole time...
And missed them both. Of course.
So I learned my lesson. These runs that I've wanted just to be mine for a long time -- I've had those. Countless, years of them. And I'll have them again. But for now, I have something new: runs with CG. They might not be as fast, or as long, but her delight when she scoots down a hill, when people cheer her on, when we race each other are priceless. And I can hope that some day it will mean she might enjoy running, or at least using her body, seeing the sunrise over a lake, or getting together with a bunch of people to all do the same thing for no other good reason that it's fun.
Time with her, with them, sharing the things I love and enjoy and hoping they might share that joy...? Yeah, okay. Worth the change of pace (ba dum tish).
Now, I just gotta work on understanding the same thing when it comes to a certain 2-year-old waking up every time I try to write. T_T At least this morning I realized what was up and switched to reading a physical book. He then crawled into my lap with his own book and we read together like that for a while before he got squirrely again. That's... that's good, too.
