Apr. 6th, 2016 01:06 pmI am so boring right now. My brain is a fuzzy wasteland where there is simply not much going on. Life is a holding pattern while we wait to find out where/when we're moving. I keep wanting to write, but either I a) have no energy or b) have no words. It's like pregnancy stopped the constant movie of story plots that was going through my head. It's so quiet. And calm. But I hate it - I miss those stories and plots. I hope they come back.
Oh, there are two interesting things, I suppose:
a) We went to Texas this weekend to visit family and see my newest niece.

She is a little chubby bunny. But she's also a baby and I have three nieces now and have been around four babies in the last four? five? years. The newness of babies has really worn off and I'm much more interested in seeing who they become.
But still it was good to meet her and see my bro and the rest of the fam and see where they've been living this past... year... ish. And then get inundated with baby advice. Oh dear. It begins.
b) Michigan. Dr Lady has an interview at Michigan State at the end of April and I'm going out with her to scope out the lay of the land. At this point, we're 99.9% sure MI is where we'll be moving to this fall (this summer?). We still don't know when, exactly, but it's becoming more and more certain. Of course, she still has to ace her interview - no pressure - but since they're paying to fly her out and everything, she's already pretty much got this.
I want to have this nailed down sooner than later, because then maybe I can start sussing out exactly what will happen with work. There have been hints that I could work remote, but until I actually approach them with "yes, I'm leaving such and such date" there's nothing solid to work with.
On the one hand, it would be nice to have a remote job that pays pretty well and is pretty flexible, esp considering how bad the MI economy is. On the other hand, I don't know *how* flexible they can be and my ideal is to come back from maternity leave and go to part time. And this year has really hammered home how much I need flexibility and/or at least a little more extra time.
I have been working 40 hour weeks from 8 to 5 for almost ten years now, with no extra vacation time to show for it because I have to keep switching employers. Having only two weeks a year that I can take off SUCKS BALLS especially when I live so far away from family so that basically those two weeks = visiting family. It's time I either have a job that gives me more than two weeks or lets me take unpaid time off.
Anyway.
Yaay Michigan (brr).
