Jul. 25th, 2009 09:24 pmI found gooseberries today. I've been on the look-out for these beauts since I heard tell they grow in WA. I first discovered them in Germany, when I was sent out to collect berries for my host-father's vodka experiments. I also gathered red and black currants and red and black raspberries. But the gooseberries were my favorite - large, green globes which burst with such deliciousness. I ate more while picking than I actually brought back to the house.
That summer defined how summer should be, instead of how the endless summers of FL had been for me. There was no a/c in the houses or the buildings then either, so we would frequently be let out early from school and then go and get ice cream as a pack. For the rest of the day we would be thankful for the thick walls that kept the inside cool. Then there were the afternoon trips to Koeln where we would sit by the Rhine and eat ice cream. Obviously, ice cream was a big thing.
So imagine my delight - and instant cravings for ice cream - when I found these delicious berries at the store today. Along with little packs of red and black currants.
