Sunday Evening Brain Dump

So NaNo. Yeah. About that.
Not happening this year.
I got about five or six days in and it just still wasn't any fun. I'm not ready for this story yet or it's not ready for me and I was daydreaming about editing the ZA one, so, there. I will work on tying that up for the month of November instead, because I'm a big girl and I'm not at all competitive (nope). Also I'm excited about finishing it. I want to let it rest (like bread!) and then pick through it and thread it together into something less drafty and more whole come January. I hate that process. I love that process.
Speaking of which, have some metrics.
Currently at: 185/195 113,303/119,587
Likely another 15k of words to the finish line, which will leave a bit of trimming because I definitely don't want the end work to be more than 120k. That's... already pushing it.
Other life things: I don't think I've mentioned it yet, but I've been working my way through the Grand Central Baking Book in order to properly learn how to bake, once and for all. So far I've made scones and Irish soda bread and apple pie and blueberry muffins and pecan sticky buns. And they've - for the most part, when I haven't deviated far from the recipe - been successes. Today was coffee cake, another first. The recipe called for fresh fruit strewn on on the top, under the streusel, but all I had was one apple - not remotely enough for the full cake. So I used blackberry jam for the rest instead, which turned out way better. Good to know.
Other good things to know: coffee cake uses a lot of eggs. Proportionally, at least. If I make it again, I would do a cinnamon caramel type instead of just plain. But who knows when next will be, because I'm pretty sure next weekend is quick breads. Or, alternatively, because it is the weekend before Turkey Day, bourbon pecan pie.
All these baked, sugar-filled goods are probably not the best idea considering I twisted my ankle yesterday and haven't been able to really walk much, let alone run. That's what I get for trying to run (in hiking boots) over a rocky trail. Go me!
Also it's not very conducive to working on pull-ups, since more grains and sugar = fatter Kai. But in our class our coach has asked us to all come up with three goals to focus on and one of mine is FINALLY OBTAINING A PULL-UP, so I guess I'd better work on that. The other two goals? Consecutive double unders and beating Anne, a classmate who is consistently three steps ahead of me in everything (competitive? me?).
