Storm Clouds and a Slivered Moon

Lady stepped out with the trash, closed the door behind her. A moment later, she pushed it back open, popped in her head and said, "Chicky. This light. You have got to see it."

Bless her. A girl who can spot beautiful lighting is a girl after my own heart.

I could see it behind her, this ephemeral glow. Like light was just coming straight down despite it being evening. I came out after her, looked up, and stared.

The Perfect Light

A bank of clouds at just the right height to catch and reflect the glow of the setting sun. To cast that same gorgeous light back down where it didn't belong at this hour. As I stared, lightning arced and thunder grumbled.

I grew excited. I accompanied Lady to the trash to see more of this brilliant light, but it was already fading, and quick. To the east marched a front of storm clouds so thick they had already consumed the Rincons. Wind kicked up, tossed the trees and my skirt, and I stood, bare feet on the still hot concrete, moist air on my cheeks, watching and waiting for the next strike of lightning.

The desert, guys. This marvelous, lively, colorful place.

Oh yeah, and here's a picture of my ukulele. Her name is Maleficent, Terrorizer of Cats and Emo Annihilator. Or just Mal for short.
